participation of the investigation

I have registered an FIR after lots of efforts and paying handsome amount against a theft of my car front interior panel including a/c controller, navigation system and DVD player. However, now i have started receiving calls from investigation officer to participate in the investigation process and also receive a letter to visit police station, since i am out of station could not visit the said police station, now the need is to know the legal implications of non participation of the investigation against the FIR.
