Applying for NADRA identity card
I am a Pakistani citizen by birth. My parents migrated from Afghanistan 35 years ago and settled in Pakistan. I am contacting you to request your legal help in obtaining Pakistani ID cards for me and my family.
Due to some difficulties, my father had to register us as refugees and get us Refugee ID Cards. However, we now want to get Pakistani ID cards as our rightful documents. We have our birth certificates as evidence of our birth in Pakistan, but we are not sure how to proceed with the application process. We would be very grateful if you could advise us on the steps we need to take and provide us with any legal support you can offer.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
Yours sincerely,
Sincerely,

Thank you for contacting us at http://www.paklawyer.com. We are happy to assist you with your legal question. According to our research, you may be eligible to apply for a Pakistani ID card if you were born in Pakistan and have a birth certificate as proof of your citizenship. However, the process is not straightforward and may require some additional steps. First, you will need to obtain a new Proof of Registration (PoR) smartcard from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). This is a biometric identity card that is legally recognized and includes enhanced security features. It is issued to Afghan refugees registered in Pakistan as part of the Documentation Renewal and Information Verification Exercise (DRIVE) . You can apply for this card online at https://id.nadra.gov.pk/ or at selected post offices or international airports in Pakistan . Second, you will need to renounce your refugee status and cancel your old PoR card. This is a voluntary decision that you should make after considering the implications for your rights and protection in Pakistan and Afghanistan. You will also need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) and the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees (CAR) . Third, you will need to submit an application for a Pakistani ID card (CNIC) along with your birth certificate, NOC, new PoR smartcard, and other supporting documents to NADRA. You will also need to pay a fee and undergo biometric verification. The processing time may vary depending on your case. We hope this information is helpful to you.
